Shanahan: 'We're going to get him in shape'

Fun, fun, fun day to be at Redskins training camp, huh?

Albert Haynesworth couldn't complete his (possibly rigged by Mike Shanahan?) conditioning test and there may or may not have been words exchanged between the DT and his coach following a lengthy bathroom break.

Of course, this can't go down without the media asking questions, which means that Shanny had to have answers. He confirmed that "Albert did not pass his conditioning test" and then added this:
“Obviously, you’d like him to be in the type of shape that most of our players are in. The bottom line is that we’re going to get him in shape. If he’s going to be on our football team and he’s going to play at the level we’d like him to play, then he’s got to be in great football shape. Hopefully he’ll get it done tomorrow, but it may take two or three days, it may take a week. I really don’t know. His weight is fine. We’ve just got to get that cardio at a certain level to make sure he doesn’t injure himself.” Shanahan also declined to discuss what was said between the two following the failed test but did use the phrase, "But there were no words." That's interesting, because he also confirmed that there was a "conversation."

Haynesworth, for his part, just needs to pass the test in order to play. So, basically, Shanahan has drawn a line in the sand, Albert has to decide if he can run past it fast enough, and then we can all move on with our lives, for a few weeks at least.

And yeah, it's quite safe to assume that Shanny isn't going to budge on the requirement to pass the test; at this point he's adhering to the principality of the thing and is determined to let Haynesworth know who's in charge.
