Colts could franchise Manning

Posted on: August 2, 2010 1:31 pm
Colts owner Jim Irsay has said Bill Polian and super agent Tom Condon are still discussing a new contract for Peyton Manning. Irsay still plans on making Manning the highest-paid player in the NFL.

The Colts had hoped to get a deal done this past offseason, but the uncertainties of the Collective Bargaining Agreement derailed that. Talking to reporters Monday, Irsay did not give any timetable for the current contract negotiations. But he did say the Colts would use the franchise tag if it comes to that.

Colts could franchise Manning

Personally, as a Peyton Manning fan, I'd like to see Peyton Manning go to the Patriots.  I'm tired of the Colts not allowing him to get a perfect season by throwing games at the end.  In New England, he and Bill Belicheck would rule and reign with iron fists.
Manning in New England would make for the greatest team ever...  PERFECT SEASON.
I love the Colts...but they've done Manning wrong over the years.  Think about how many perfect seasons the guy could have had...  and, when you remove the players' dreams of a perfect season, it's at least some explanation for the early round flops...  even winning the Super Bowl was only part of what they could have won.  Takes the desire out of a player when you tell them to lose.
All I'm saying, is Manning to the Patriots...then his career could end with a perfect season and total football domination!

Colts could franchise Manning

This is a big surprise to me.  Had this come from Kraft I would not be a bit surprised, but Irsay......big surprise for me.  I'm not normally a conspiracy guy, but this oozes of owners colluding to ensure the big three (Manning, Brady, Brees) don't get signed before the new CBA.

If I'm any one of the big three I express that this is the wrong way to handle it, or better pull a Pig Three (James, Wade, Bosh) and sit down and collude themselves to ensure that the new CBA doesn't cost them what they are due.  All three of these guys (if I'm agent or them) should hold out for at least what Bradford got, though I'd go more for Big Ben #'s, especially as they are all far more loved throughout the NFL and don't have his baggage (which was there prior to the latest indiscretion).
