Vikings offer Favre even more money

Posted on: August 4, 2010 9:57 am
We’ll go ahead and get this Brett Favre update out of the way, as well. Which I’m sure will be just fine with you.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune , the Vikings have put together a compensation package that would give Favre $20 million to play this season – a significant raise from the $13 million he already was scheduled to make. Apparently, $16 million would be guaranteed and the other $4 million would come in the form of incentives.

Though Minnesota coach Brad Childress pled ignorance during his Tuesday news conference, Judd Zulgad writes “Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe admitted Favre had ‘told a couple of guys on the team that he was going to retire,’ but the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald reported an unnamed person close to Favre's family said he hadn't made a decision whether to play a second season with the Vikings.”

I know this is easy to say from the outside, but at some point, shouldn’t the Vikings say, “Screw it. Enough is enough. Thirteen million dollars is plenty. If you’re going to continue to jerk us around, forget it. We’ll go with Tarvaris Jackson. You stay retired, Brett.”

OK, that won’t happen, but would anybody blame Minnesota if it took that tact?

Vikings offer Favre even more money

If the Vikings want to extend Favre some more money so be it.  I guess I wouldn't mind knowing I get paid like a hall of fame Quarterback versus a rookie who just signed for 50 million.  I highly doubt that this is the reason Favre wants to make this an issue--again.  Favre has hundereds of millions of dollars to his name.  At least he has made that much over the course of his NFL career.  What this boils down to, and has in my opinion boiled down to for a few years now is Favre's unwantingness to join camp.  When he was with the Packers he played this game and they had to play along because it was Brett Friggin' Favre.  This guy single handedly took them out of the cellar of the 1980's and the joke that was a passing game.  (Remember the Magic Man?) --yes he was over the line.  Favre leaves and then tells the Jets he is going to retire.  Now with the Vikings he is under contract.  If you are injured you don't have to show up to camp.  If you have had a surgery and are recovering from it--you don't have to show up to camp.  Favre wants nothing to do with camp.  I can't blame him.  He doesn't need to be in the dorm.  He doesn't need to get along with new guys or old guys.  He doesn't need to compete for the starting job.  He doesn't need to learn a new system.  He doesn't want to run around doing two a days.  Hell no one wants to do that at 40.  There are three things Favre and the Vikings have to agree on.  Can you play?  Do you want to play? When do you want to play?  Favre's "camp" and by that I mean Buss, can't tell the Vikings he wants to sit around until the third or fourth week of the pre-season so he can kick off some rust.  They can't tell the Vikings he is going to skip pre-season and show up on week two.  I wouldn't want to play the Saints again for fear of being hurt.  I know Favre wants to stick it to the Saints though.  He wanted to beat up on the Packers, and he will want to against the Saints.  That is the fighter and the ego in Favre.

This isn't news--or at least it isn't to anyone who follows the NFL.  This isn't an analysis, at least not really.  This leaves it to one last catagory and that is rumors.  That is all this is and will ever be until two things happen.  Either Favre steps up to the mic and pulls a James and hosts a one-hour love fest on himself with MTV..I mean ESPN's help, and declares what he is going to do.  Option two, we wait.  Either until week three of the preseason or until week one.  This is the last time I will read, or post anything about Favre until I actually read something that says "Brett Favre retires from the NFL."

well maybe I still might not believe it.  How about Favre retires after the preseason and the first quarter of football

Vikings offer Favre even more money

At what point does Brad Childress just give it up, move on, and actually try to develop a quarterback?  "Favre says he will not play?  Well let's offer him more money, Hell, what, he's only 60, now, isn't he?"  It will have to end someday, will it not (I would hope, anyhow)?  Was he the coach of the year, last year?  Maybe that should have been Brett Favre, instead?  That's what it is looking like; because he is the one running the team there, not Childress.

Vikings offer Favre a prostitute...himself

This will get ugly, early on...mark my words.  Can you say, LOSS OF CONTROL, BRAD CHILDRESS? The next thing that will happen is Favre will be negotiating the play-calling.  How stupid, really, does this make Brad Childress look?  Does he look like a man who is desperate, here?  Wow!  How long will this go on, and how much flesh will this idiot have to happily give-up?  This situation will impode before it get

Vikings offer Favre even more money

None of us really know what's going on in his headNever a truer word said. And I guaranty, Favre has no idea what is going on in his head. This on again, off again thing with retirement has him bedeviled.

One thing for sure, the gamer (he has NEVER MISSED A GAME) veteran knows how to miss spring practive, exhibition games and all of that stuff. He will have a book writtenand all this will be covered within 18 months of his true retirement. Of course, the book publisher will be going crazy wondering  if Favre acts in the way the book predicts ... personallyh, I would call the book ..

Finally Retired. I Think?

Favre is the man and people need to leave him alone. Let him play. If he does, the Packers already have 2 losses this year. If you were that good at your job, you would have an ego too. I think Favre shoud play and make the extra 7 mil an incentive package. 3.5M for getting to the NFC championship and 3.5 for getting to the SB. If they win it, they should give him another 5!
