Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic recently spoke on the phone with Cardinals demoted quarterback Matt Leinart. Here’s what Leinart had to say:

"I'm disappointed. I’ve done everything to this point that they’ve asked me to and more. I’ve worked hard and been a leader. I’m trying to be that guy in this new role. I have high expectations for myself."

"It hasn’t gone the way we’ve wanted in the preseason. That’s the case sometimes when you have a lot of new players. We have to gel together and that’s what the preseason is about."

"I feel I’ve been efficient. I’ve been accurate. I haven’t turned the ball over. I don't know how we judge performance when you have 13 pass attempts to the other guy's 40. I’m not going to sit here and complain and point the finger. I have to get better and I’m going to get better."

"I’m going to keep grinding and keep fighting. Ultimately, I have to let my play do the talking. I’m frustrated and disappointed. I’m not really sure what’s being asked of me. I’m going to continue to be a leader on this team.”

"I think if it’s an open competition, then let’s make it that from the get-go, go out there and let the best player win. I believe that I’m going to be starter that opening game."

“All I can do is really focus on just me.  I don’t make these decisions and sometime you don’t know why decisions are made. I can’t really worry anything that’s out of my control. Like I said, I still plan on starting opening week."

Somers asked Leinart how he and head coach Ken Whisenhunt mesh.

“I don’t know. I really don’t know. It seems like every preseason there is something I’m trying to get through. I don’t really know what’s going on and why decisions are being made.

"I’ve worked extremely hard to get to this point.  I hope everyone has seen that."

Leinart speaks (he's not thrilled)

He clearly isn't a leader at all if he doesn't know how he and Coach Whisenhunt mesh. Also he clearly isn't much of a team player as well if he feels he is only out to improve himself, which obviously he isn't working hard at. He is quite a pathetic QB if you ask me. What a wasted draft pick. I would suggest Skelton be higher on the depth chart and possibly even the guy out of BYU. The cards need to cut their losses with this untalented pansy. They should send him to Seattle so he can be with his former "great" college coach. Any QB could have done just as well with that USC team. Must be nice having one of, if not the greatest  offensive line in college football history. Obviously I have no respect whatsoever for the poster child of USC...which really stands for the (U)niversity of (S)poiled (C)hildren. The former atheltic director displayed it best when he told the NCAA board, after they made their verdict clear, that they were all just jealous that they weren't Trojans. Please. Back to pro football, Anderson will be the starter, I'm gonna predict an 8-8 season for the Cards, not making the playoffs, 49ers taking the sorry division.

13 pass attempts and no first downs.  That's enough to see that you're not very good.

Leinart speaks (he's not thrilled)

The interview failed to mention that while giving it Matt Leinart was sitting in his hot tub with an underage girl and snorting coke off her a$$ while his play book floated at the bottom of the pool.

Except for the underage girl (can we replace with a voluptuous MILF?), sounds like some fun...

Matt Leinart was an over-rated college player.  He played on a great team, but he never looked to be a stud QB.  The Cardinals bought the hype and he has done nothing to show he is a leader or an NFL calibre QB.

Matt asks why the decision was made - It's simple Matt, you just aren't very good.

This guy is too much of a silver spooner.  Grew up rich, USC star, all the chicks, king of the parties, now he's asked to knock heads with a bunch of mashers.  This guy's a  mental and physical wimp.
