UDPATE II: Leftwich's management company tweeted that the quarterback tore his MCL. A torn MCL usually means 4-6 weeks of recovery. Thus, ironically, Leftwich will return around the time Roethlisberger returns.

UPDATE: Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Leftwich was taken to a local hospital for an MRI.

Mike Tomlin’s decision about who to start in place of suspended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger may have just become much easier. Byron Leftwich left Pittsburgh’s game against Carolina in the second quarter with an apparent knee injury.

No word yet on the severity of the injury. If Leftwich is unavailable, the Steelers will turn to Dennis Dixon. The Steelers open their season against the Falcons in 10 days.

The Steelers need no help and never got any. Just because the Blueboys SUCK IT and choke every year..... I'm just saying, Cowboys choke again in the the playoffs after winning the second weakest division in football.

I think Dennis Dixon has looked better so far in the pre-season than Byron Leftwich.  Maybe this makes the decision easier for Mike Tomlin. If Dixon starts it will be great experience and will payoff dividends if Big Ben should need to miss a game or two due to injury.

I hope Leftwich has a speedy and healthy recovery.

I bet Ben Roethlisberger's suspension will be reduced to 4 games and the Steelers schedule is not that bad for the first 4 games so they should be alright by the time Ben is back.

The Cowboys released Sicko. The steelers should pick him up. Then they will have a sicko and a pervert on the roster.
