Technically, this is probably a story for our compadres over at the College Football Blog . Unfortunately, they're a little tied up with posting GIFs of PedoBear , so we're gonna be the ones writing about how Washington coach Steve Sarkisian called Reggie Bush "an idiot." Again.

Er, not again, but "an idiot again," which theoretically is kind of the same thing, right? (Also, worth noting that we love what those guys at the CFB blog are doing. They're our besties.) Anyway, Sark had some words for Shelley Smith about Reggie Bush handing back his Heisman Trophy.

"He had a chance to apologize, look like the good guy," Sarkisian told Smith. "But in giving it back and not apologizing, he just looks like an idiot again ... No matter how much money he got paid, that didn't affect how we prepared. We weren't the best team in football because of what he or his parents took."

UPDATE: Sark said after the Nebraska/Washington game that the comments weren't intended 'for print media.' So, um, okay.

It's understandable that Sarkisian isn't "thrilled" by the fact that Bush's public debacling and USC's punishments makes him look less effective as a coach, but it sure seems that everyone is quick to forget that it was common knowledge (a la Shaq at LSU) that Bush had some "stuff" going on.

And you know what? Even if Sark didn't know what was going on (somehow), it doesn't matter -- if someone gets to participate in everything that leads to the celebration of the championships, they get to participate in everything involved in the downfall afterwards, too.

Sarkisian says, "No matter how much money he got paid, that didn't affect how we prepared." That's exactly why USC got punished so harshly. They had little or no concern about their athletes taking money from anyone who offered it. They didn't care.

Then he says, "We weren't the best team in football because of what he or his parents took." Well, yes you were. Athletes knew they could break any rule in the book, so they came to USC like flies. They fielded a semi-professional team.

Of course, USC isn't the only one. Just the most obvious.

BTW if LT cared so much about his education even in hindsight why didn't he take it more seriously while he was actually attending school?
If he REALLY cared that much why didn't he do something about it then? or why didn't he do something about it without the ability to profit from it?
I'll tell you why because he doesn't care that's why, it was all about the money.
He's had plenty of years since he retired to get himself educated and up to snuff but hasn't done so, why? because he doesn't care and he only mentioned any of it to make a buck!
Sure there were unscurpulous coaches and tutors who did the work for him during hsi 4 years at UNC but he never questioned it or at least you never heard him question anything about it until he had an opportunity to profit from it.

Ok, so the opportunity to gain an education free of charge at a prestigious college where a degree in any field helps you get a foot in the door ahead of other applicants isn't compensation enough?
tell that to the "non" "student athlete" who's paying HUGE sums of money for their education or better yet tell it to the parents of one of those students that pays the bill for the students education.
Tell that to the student who works part or even full time taking a full class load on top of it all and has to pay their own way.
I'm a sports fan, as much as the next person but when we give athletes scholarships to me no matter how much the NCAA is making that is more than enough payment.
The other way I see it college athletics is like an internship, when you're a student in college and you take an internship more times than not it's unpaid, sure there may be some perks you get here and there like free lunch at the office or if you intern at a radio s tation like some UW athletes did when I worked at a radio station in Seattle you got little freebies from  advertisers who might stop by the station but you weren't getting paid.
So if we treat college atheltics like an internship for what an athlete ultimately wants to do with his life which is to play professional athletics their time in collehe on the field is their internship but they get an even bigger perk than anyone could ask for - free education, room & board, sounds like a great deal to me !
Let's get off this garbage about athletes needing to get paid money, if they need money let them get it from mom & dad like other students do or in the offseason get a job not get free education and get paid to boot, it's just crazy!
