Report: Rams out of running for Jackson

There have been four teams named as possible suitors for Vincent Jackson: the Vikings, the Seahawks, the Redskins and the Rams. Although the Vikings were the most heavily discussed, but certainly the other receiver-needy teams listed were possibilities as well.

Reportedly, though, you can scratch the Rams from the list of teams trying to make a play for the Pro Bowler before 4 PM today -- sources tell Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the Rams are no longer interested in pursuing Jackson.

And that makes total sense. Jackson is expensive to obtain from the Chargers, requiring a second- and third-round draft pick in 2011, and provided the Rams want to keep him more than a year (they would, as they're not exactly "contenders" in 2010), he'd require a long-term contract.

Making that pricey deal even more complicated is the fact that Jackson has two DUIs on his record, and further off-field problems could cost him up to a year's suspension.

That's clearly something that the Rams don't want to deal with as they try to rebuild, so they're smart to avoid getting involved in a game of chicken with the typically unblinking A.J. Smith.

If the Chargers want to trade him, lower their demand, personally, i think losing Jackson wont kill the Chargers anyway.

Redskins.  You're right about one thing for sure. As good as Jackson can be losing him certainly doesn't kill the Chargers at all.  But there is one thing I have to disagree with you on and that is the Chargers don't have to lower their demands at all and in the end will get everything they want for Jackson.

It's all about who has more bargaining power and right now, the Chargers hold all the cards.   As long as he remains a Charger through today ( and it looks like that's the case) Jackson can't play until game 7.  And Jackson already said that as long as he's a Charger without a contract to his liking he'll sit out until week 11, so the Chargers have already written him off with the only question now being the compensation they are going to get for trading him.  The Chargers have moved on....

By week 7, there is a fantastic chance other teams will be in the running as well.  Injuries in the NFL are obviously very common and teams get much more desperate as the year goes on.  Soon enough teams will step it up a notch and offer more for Jackson....  so why should the Chargers be in a hurry??  They already lost him.. they don't have to make it easy for Jackson or anybody wanting to acquire him..... and they won't .... they'll stick to their guns and get as much for him as they possibly can.

Imagine if by mid season the Vikings find out that Rice is going to be out longer then expected or maybe not coming back at all this year?  What if Green Bay loses a reciever ?  Suddenly you have a bidding war for him....  it could be anybody good that suffers an injury on a playoff contender and suddenly a 2nd and 3rd round pick will be very possible to acquire.....

The Chargers can't lose any more then they have already lost..... and they won't give in...

well the best they can do now is a 3rd round pick assuming Jackson gets a large front loaded contract.  If he signs a back loaded contract wiht another team they will get a 5th round pick.  AJ is an idiot - he fucked Jackson now Jackson will fuck him

He isn't going anywhere. Smith is a stubborn jackass. I hope Jackson doesn't produce a yard this season. The Chargers are too happy to be regular season contenders. They could have used this as a stepping stone to get some value out of VJ but will instead get nothing but a pissed off WR with a vendetta aginst his own team. It won't take long for defenses to shut down Floyd and double Gates making Rivers look average. Matthews still has to prove himself. Chargers=First round playoff loser.
