Report: Brees has strained left MCL

The Saints' start to defending their championship has been auspicious at best, even with a 2-1 record. So the report coming out of New Orleans on Wednesday that Drew Brees has a strained left MCL can't be considered "good," and certainly not "well-timed."

According to our Saints Rapid Reporter Larry Holder , WIST-AM in New Orleans is reporting just that, though, "citing a source familiar with the situation."

The station is also reporting that "the plan" is for Brees to play against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, meaning that the reported injury can't be that serious, at least for now.

But the reason to freak out (if one were so inclined) and/or consider this problematic is that Brees is absolutely the key to the Saints success; that's not insider knowledge or anything that's not obvious, clearly.

However, Brees' role with the Saints is similar to Peyton Manning's with the Colts -- if you take him out of the lineup, a potential Super Bowl champion suddenly becomes a middle-of-the-road contender that can easily be exposed.

UPDATE (3:22 p.m.): According to Rapid Reporter Larry Holder, Brees wore a brace on  his knee but that he took every snap in practice today and didn't appear on the injury report. Coach Sean Payton said the knee is sore but there's no specific injury.

Report: Brees has strained left MCL

1. Addai
2. Maroney
3. Bush

Yea, and to add something else this, Maurice Jones-Drew was drafted after all 3 of these guys and have had by far the best career so far.

Here's the breakdown with the top RB's from the 2006 Draft:

Best RB: Maurice Jones-Drew

BIggest Bust: Reggie Bush

Worse RB: Laurence Maroney

Report: Brees has strained left MCL

Oops, I forgot:

Maroney did NOT get a super bowl ring that season because they lost to the giants in the super bowl. But, Lawrence Maroney can always say that he was the starting HB of the only team, in the salary cap era, and only the 2nd team in the history of NFL football, to go undefeated in the regular season.

Report: Brees has strained left MCL

And now, time for K2Blue's(don't inhale)"Did You Know" for today.

DID YOU KNOW:

Reggie Bush has one(1) 100yd rushing game in his entire NFL Career?

In college he looked great. But in the NFL he's sucked. The three top drafted RB's that year were:

1. Reggie Bush (Saints)
2. Lawrence Maroney (Patriots)
3. Joseph Addai (Colts)

ALL three of these dudes have a superbowl ring also, btw.
Guess how they've averaged as far as who has had the most yardage:

1. Addai
2. Maroney
3. Bush

He definitely wasn't worth the cash. Houston made the right pick by skipping Bush with the first pick in the draft that year and picking up their great defensive player, Mario Williams.

Report: Brees has strained left MCL

but if they started him instead of thomas when he's healthy, he's a lot better rb than pierre is. Reggie has the explosiveness that pierre doesn't and more natural ability. No team fears pierre thomas, they would fear bush though
people dont fear Thomas because he's a normal back, Bush isnt, HOWEVER, Bush is VERY limited, when has he ever carried the ball 25 times in a game or 20 for that matter???? when did he have 5 100 yard rushing games???? Bush is a weapon and a great reciever, BUT he is limited as a running back.
when Reggie Bush is out it does make a pretty significant difference.  Hes a huge playmaker!
not really, this same team WITH Bush almost lost to the 49ers, even if they had Bush, the Saints would've lost. IF you think Bush is better than Bress, than i hope Brees misses time and Bush doesnt and see what happens. Bush and the Saints will suck and be lucky to win 8 games, with Brees, they are a tough team and are always in the fight to win 8 or more games.

Report: Brees has strained left MCL

He's not the best RB no, he's the best player in the back field, i dont know how funny it is but he's the only back they have that makes the defense take notice, change what they want to do, give their offense opertunity to go down the field.
