Dwayne Jarrett popped for DUI in Charlotte

Dwayne Jarrett, perennial Panthers' bust and the reason why they don't have the two Steve Smiths on one squad, had another awkward moment in his already awkward career last night when he was arrested for driving while impaired in Mecklenburg County.

This is Jarrett's second DUI in two years , which means that he's likely to get a) nailed by the courts under North Carolina law, which is strict against DUI's and b) get nailed by the NFL with a suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

You may recall that Vincent Jackson's current contract situation was highly exacerbated because of his three-game suspension for a second DUI; it's not unreasonable that the NFL could consider a similar penalty for Jarrett.

The only difference is he's not a Pro Bowler, which means it's not out of the question for the Panthers to outright release him following his latest facepalm-worthy incident in Charlotte.

What a complete waste of talent. Jarrett had everything. Size, speed, hands. Now he's just another Reggie Williams. Bloody shame.

The best thing that the Carolina Panthers can do is release Dwayne Jarrett even with Steve Smith being injured and move the other receivers up on the depth chart and bring up a guy off of the practice squad to fill the vacant roster spot created by Jarret's release. I bet you that the guys lower on the depth chart and on the practice squad will maximize the fantastic opportunity that is currently presenting itself to the Panthers receiving group as that #2 receiver (often referred to as 1-A) to take pressure off of Steve Smith and having coverages rotate towards him heavily in passing situations. Furthermore, it is not like Jarrett was very productive to begin with. He now has more DUI's during the course of his NFL career than he does touchdown receptions, so releasing him would not be a great loss to the Panthers.

Bears Offensive line?   hmmmm when is the last time you saw a Mike Martz run offense that the line didn't stink.  An offense under Martz control will always stink and the QB will always get killed.

Can him

The best thing the Panthers can do for this guy is release him. He was a 1st round pick who's acted like a diva and played like a chump. Releasing him might open his eyes and give him the incentive to actually do somethign with his talent. he's got a lot of it but we rarely glimpse it.

even with Steve Smith out this weekend and in dire need, the Panthers will most likely let him go
i doubt they let him go now, i think they will likely say goodbye to him at the end of the year and he will go to Seattle.
against a Bears defense that might be embarrassed after last weeks big loss to the Giants
the Bears defense wasnt the issue in that game, yes they got gashed later, but it's hard to be a good defense when you play almost all the game, the Bears offensive line NEEDS to be embarrassed, that was a sad display, Cutler was hit around and then Collins came in and had to leave the game because of an injury. the offensive line should be embarrassed. the defense will play hard, especially Peppers since he's coming back to Carolina, although i hope they lose.

You can say goodbye to Dwayne Jarrett...even with Steve Smith out this weekend and in dire need, the Panthers will most likely let him go...Jerry Richardson and Panthers management have little tolerance for this type of thing....looks like they will be starting (3) rookie WR's  and a rookie QB this weekend...good luck Panthers...you're gonna need it against a Bears defense that might be embarrassed after last weeks big loss to the Giants
