P. Manning
To be clear, this is NOT a “What’s wrong with Peyton Manning?” article. The living legend is completing 67.6 percent of his passes this season. He has 1,609 yards through five games (putting him on page for over 5,100 yards), with 11 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

But when Ron Jaworski, perhaps the foremost quarterback expert in today’s media, suggests that age might be catching up with the 34-year-old Manning, it’s worth mentioning.

Friday morning, Jaws said on ESPN radio’s Mike and Mike Show, “The last couple weeks, as I’ve studied Peyton Manning, he has not been real sharp. Maybe there does come a time where the skill starts to diminish a little bit. I’m not saying it is, but I’m seeing little signs now – like the deep sideline throws are not as accurate as they used to be, not as much zip on the ball as there used to be. So maybe Father Time is catching up with Peyton Manning a little bit.”

Is Peyton Manning getting old?

oh he WAS PRETTY ON AGAINST THE GAGGIES!  it was the recievers who were off!  2 drops around the 5 yard line or the colts win that game by 2 TDs. he has had one bad game. last week. what a stupid comment on him getting older. the gaggies only care about one game and we in jax call it their superbowl game. thats against the colts. gags play like crap the rest of the year. peyton manning is just fine and will win mvp no. 4

Is Peyton Manning getting old?

For the record, Favre has been pretty spotty for about 5 years.  If you remember, he wasn't having the greatest seasons for a few years prior to 07.  And then in 07 and 08 he more or less collapsed down the stretch.  Last year was an exception.

At this point, Favre is probably being thrown into a succession of the best situations a QB can possibly be in.  He went to a Jets team with a great D and a great run game, and they flourished until HE broke down.  The he went to a Vikings team with an even better D and an even better run game... and he took them from a wild card team to a great team.... until HE broke down.

The last half decade prove nothing so much except that father time IS killing Favre.  I wouldn't expect a QB of his age and talent to suck all season; I would expect greatness early and then a steadily declining performance as his beaten and aging body can't keep up with the rigors of an NFL season.  And thats precisely whats happened.

Favre is lucky he's come into the situations he has, and Peyton, who has been the entire Colts team for years, would be well warned to keep Favre's lessons in mind; without a great supporting cast, aging QBs are in trouble, even the best of them.

Is Peyton Manning getting old?

Uh, yeah. Time catches up to everyone, even QB's. But as Bret Favre has proved, he can still perform pretty well for another 7 years. He was an int and a shitty call away from the super bowl last year. And Jaws being a foremost expert on QB's is funny. Jaws is only a foremost expert on how to be tool in the MNF press box.

Is Peyton Manning getting old?

Unless he has found a fracture in the time space continuum that he keeps popping out of, or found the fountain of youth on his last trip to Florida (Jags win!!) I'm thinking that he is.  But I would love for him to retire and move to North Florida...
