Like usual, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan was bombarded by questions about DT Albert Haynesworth at his news conference today. With the trade deadline Tuesday afternoon, though, the overriding question of the day was this:

Will the team trade Haynesworth?

“There’s a pretty good chance that he won’t be traded,” Shanahan said.

So, there you go. Haynesworth probably WON’T be traded. Shanahan also allowed that he will be extremely glad that he won’t have to answer the will-Haynesworth-be-traded queries after the trade deadline. I’m sure the scribes will be glad they don’t have to ask it, either.

If he’s going to be with the team, then, how long will it take for him to be on the gameday active roster? You’ll remember, of course, that Haynesworth missed about a week’s worth of practice – and the past two games – following the death of his brother.

“I think when you don’t work out for a week – he worked out Friday, Saturday and Sunday (two weeks ago) – and we worked him out Friday and Saturday (after he returned from the funeral), he’s getting some conditioning in and getting back into the flow of things,” Shanahan said.  “So hopefully once we start practicing, on Saturday [if] he’s feeling pretty good and his mindset is ready to go, he’s had a few days of conditioning and he’ll be ready to go this week.”
