James Harrison was so upset by the NFL's decision to actually start enforcing its 'big hit' policy that he almost retired when he got fined $75,000 for his play against the Cleveland Browns.
There's a pretty good chance that he'll be upset this week too, because it seems like a good bet that the NFL will review his hit on Drew Brees by Harrison from Sunday night. He was cited for a personal foul on the play and it seems likely that a fine and/or suspension will be coming his way, considering that the hit was late (Brees had clearly released a pass), it was on a major star quarterback, and Harrison practically lined up his helmet and hit Brees from behind.

Harrison's hit on Brees probably getting a lookIt's amazing how slow-mo footage makes things look worse than they are, but in this case it proves the opposite. Yes, Harrison was a little late, but there was no helmet to helmet contact. For arguement's sake, anyone who has worn shoulder pads knows that the padding protects the spine down to the shoulder blade level. Harrison's facemask strikes this padded area. And if Brees still had the ball in his hands, the play would have been a sack and maybe a fumble. The play would not even have been looked at as being illegal!
If the NFL starts fining this kind of play, then we may as well ban helmets and pads from the league and change it's name to the NFFL (National Flag Footbal League). This is just an attempt to stir things up by Mr Will Brinson. Good job Will, but please spend your time on all the facts and not just on stirring the pot! ![]() |

Harrison's hit on Brees probably getting a lookBrinson,
You should be embarrassed for posting this story. Are you really upset by the hit or because you got a run in your nylons? |

Harrison's hit on Brees probably getting a lookIf he gets fined or suspended for THIS, then we will surely know that someone in the NFL offices has a target on him. We already saw what the media created two weeks ago. It's a contact sport!
Ever heard of a pump fake? The fact that Harrison swatted at the "ball" is a pretty good indication that he thought it was still in his hand. From his angle there's no way to know for sure that the ball is gone. Look how low he is in the picture (probably making sure his helmet is lower than Brees') - plus, the game is moving at 100 MPH. If this results in anything beyond the 15-yard penalty, the entire Steelers team should refuse to play next week (it's only a Bengals game - not that it will matter much in the big picture). Seriously. Take the week off and let the NFL think about it as the Bengals are sending refunds to ticket holders. |
