A. Haynesworth (US Presswire)Posted by Andy Benoit

Could the end be near for Albert Haynesworth in Washington? According to Chris Russell of ESPN 980, the Redskins are seriously considering releasing the pathetic, quick-to-quit defensive tackle. According to Russell’s source, Haynesworth’s release is “75 percent likely”.

ESPN's Adam Schefter says that a release will not come this season.

Haynesworth was displeased with the coaching staff for deactivating him against the Giants Sunday. The coaching staff was displeased with Haynesworth for essentially having another bad week of practice and blaming it on sickness. There are rumors that Haynesworth got in a heated discussion with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett.

Whether he is released now or, presumably, after the season, Haynesworth may go down as the most disappointing free agent acquisition in NFL history. After signing the richest contract a defensive player has ever signed, Haynesworth managed to shun whatever self respect he might have had by lying down on his coaches and teammates. His offseason conditioning was non-existent. He never seemed to learn Washington’s new 3-4 defense (which is why he could not even muster a starting role). He’s been caught quitting on multiple plays and has been a major distraction through the media at times.

Whichever team signs Haynesworth next will likely do so for only the veteran minimum.

He isn't a fit for the 3-4 defense. They should have seen that before signing him. Hope Oakland signs him. He would be awesome in the 4-3 next to Richard Seymore.

The funniest thing of all is that - for all the Redskins and Snyder bashing going on now - you KNOW there is going to be a huge contingent of "OMFG lets sign Haynesworth = champyunship!" in 31 other NFL team forums the day he gets released.

The question isn't whether Albert Haynesworth will be cut.  Of course he will- it's just a matter of time.

The real question should be, how long until the Redskins make a similarly boneheaded and expensive signing or appallingly stupid trade-- OR, How long until Danny Snyder decides to tinker again ?!?
