Turns out Zach Thomas was right: the Jets assistant coaches were indeed instructed to form a wall along the sideline to impede Nolan Carroll’s progress down the sideline covering a punt. And we’ve found out who gave that order: Sal Alosi.

That’s the same Sal Alosi who tripped Carroll. The Jets announced that they have suspended the strength and conditioning indefinitely. Considering he was already suspended for the season, an indefinite suspension seems like the first step towards an official firing.

The fact that Alosi was the guilty tripper is what makes this bad. Technically, forming a wall is not against the rules (though the NFL Competition Committee will probably take a close look at sideline alignment of coaches and players after the season.) But forming a wall suggests that Alosi’s trip was premeditated.

You missed the point that the NFL allows a guy to run OUT OF BOUNDS on his own and come back in.  He was not hit or shoved out of bounds on his own so he should share in the blame.  Ya the coach was wrong for what he has now admitted too but sticking your knee out a couple of inches on the BACK side of the out of bounds line whether intentional or not should not have to worry about interfering with a player.  What next, run around the players box into a chearleader then blame her?

If a coach was on the white line and interfered with the actual playing field then ya, total guilt hence the comment about how many coaches do stand near the field of play and the video link.

No one ever blames basketball fans who sit 12" from their line do they?  Players are landing on or jumping over the fans in the game repeatedly don't they?  The NFL has a 3' wide frickin line and these gunners run on or past them all the time and people now freakout that a player comes in contact with a coach?

Nothing to do with culture bud.

In addition to everything else, It's a stupid thing to do as you can not possibly get away with it. It's an NFL game, there are cameras everywhere, one of them will catch you. A good candidate for that stupid criminals show.

Alosi is the fall guy...who ordered it?

I'm sorry, but I just don't buy the idea that a strength and conditioning coach has the power and influence to make six guys stand on the sideline to purposely disrupt a Dolphin player.  Watch the video on YouTube...who is standing right next to those six guys?...Rex Ryan.  This whole controversy stinks of the fat man.  The Jets are just trying to come across as being shocked by this behavior and are making sure they immediately fine and suspend him so the league will be happy they dealt with the problem.  Then, they hopefully won't look closer into the whole mess and find out Ryan was involved.  Granted, I have no proof Rex ordered it, but it just doesn't pass the smell test in my opinion.  I have to be honest though...there is a guilty part of me that likes this stuff.  The Jets are bringing back the Raiders of the 70's bad guy swagger.  I like hearing Rex Ryan boast.  It's fun to have a bad guy to hate and root against.  It beats hearing the old tired cliches and niceties exchanged that you regularly get.  20 years from now I'll remember the Jets coach tripping this guy on the sideline.  Thankfully, he wasn't hurt.  I don't think it was right.  They should be punished.  I hope it doesn't happen again.  But it makes for entertaining stuff.
