'Disrespected' McNabb: 'Let's just move on'

It wouldn't be a day in NFL coverage if there weren't some story relating to the Washington Redskins, would it? And thanks to Mike Shanahan starting Rex Grossman over Donovan McNabb in Week 15, we've got enough gossip juice to keep us rolling for the rest of the season, even if Albert Haynesworth stays off the radar.

Tuesday, McNabb appeared on ESPN 980 radio to talk about his benching and he had plenty to say about how he was "disrespected" by Shanny.

"Everything was handled awkwardly," McNabb said. "Somewhat to a disrespect to me and to the team."

McNabb lamented the evaluation process as well as the way that Shanahan handled the benching, not telling the QB of the decision until Thursday (and letting him hear about it through the media).

"Because of the timing and because of all the leaks and everything that was put out there, and no putting out the fire, so to speak," McNabb said. "I'm hearing everything through the media."

And, of course, he was asked about being placed behind even John Beck, into the third-string quarterback slot, something that didn't really thrill him too much.

"Yeah, I don't think too many guys go from 1 to 3," he answered. "That's an unfortunate situation that I guess I'm one of a few to be a part of."

The whole Washington thing is an "unfortunate situation" -- McNabb hasn't played well this year, and Shanahan has every reason to try something else out (although, Rex Grossman, really?) in the spirit of evaluation.

But the difference between the way he and McNabb are handling things publicly is stark, to say the least. McNabb continually says the "right thing," even when it involves him not looking for an apology ("At this point, let's just move on") or possibly returning to the Redskins in 2011 ("I do want to be back here").

Shanahan continually acts towards his would-be franchise quarterback in a manner that could, at best, be considered "motivational" in the right situation.

In this scenario, the only real word for it is exactly what McNabb used -- disrespectful.

'Disrespected' McNabb: 'Let's just move on'

I would say the lack of an offensive line that has allowed 43 sacks, a bunch of recievers no one has ever heard of besides maybe Santana Moss, and the 28th running attack in the NFL may be a big part of the reason McNabb has struggled. Notice the Skins are 9th in passing. Also I'd like to point out the fact that Grossman has thrown 50 passes this season and completed just 29 of them for a completion rate below that of McNabb's who has thrown 472 passes this season...Mike Furrey, and Malcolm Kelly are both on IR, Joey Galloway was cut due to his poor play after starting this season as a starter. McNabb doesn't deserve this treatment but he being the BIGGEST MAN in the NFL has sat back and taken all the crap from crtitics since being drafted. How many 1st round draft picks get boo'ed when drafted only to go on to be one of th greatest qbs in that teams history, lead them to 5 NFC championship games, and a superbowl? Good luck finding another name on that list. Not to mention does ANYONE realize it's largely because of McNabb that Andy Reid is one of the winningest coaches in the NFL right now. I don't understand what makes it so fun for everyone to sit back and blast this guy nonstop considering he seems to be one of the most levelheaded, and take-it-as-it-comes type of guys in the NFL. Would Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Drew Brees have handled this situation as calmly as he did even mentioning he hopes to return to the Redskins next season? It's so few and far between in which you see a player in the NFL, let alone a perrennial probowl qb, who's only complaint is how he was benched not that he was benched. People around the NFL should be thanking this guy for showing us not all pro athletes are complete dickheads.

All Shanny did was start the better QB.  I know he sucks, but he did better than McNabb has done most of the season.

'Disrespected' McNabb: 'Let's just move on'

Shannahan has taken this team to an all time low. His my way or the highway attitude has been very disrespectful. Rex over McNabb? Cut him at the end of the year. You are the one that brought him aboard, and he has become another scapegoat

'Disrespected' McNabb: 'Let's just move on'

Mike S has shown is a fool and that Pat B, the owner of the Broncos, knew what he was  doing when he fired Mike at the Broncos head coach. Mike got lucky that he had John Elway as his QB in Denver and that is the only reason that he succeeded.

Everything that Dan S touches turns to rust insread of gold. I feel sorry for the people of DC and the once proud Redskin organization.

Donovan McNabb deserved better from Coach S and the rest of the bungling Redskin organization.

'Disrespected' McNabb: 'Let's just move on'

McNabb has been one of the best QBs in the game for a long time.  Even Peyton is having a rough year.  There's a difference between being "motivated" to try harder and being dropped to third on the depth while the media discusses how your contract lets the team kick you out of town without further penalty after this season.  I really feel for Donovan.  He deserves better.  Good luck with Rex, Mikey Boy!  You're gonna need it.
