UPDATE 2:45 p.m. EST: Lovie Smith said Cutler has a sprained MCL. A sprain is the same as a minor tear. Smith also said that Cutler is a tough guy.

----------

Sounds like a slew of former NFL players and overactive Twitter users might owe Jay Cutler an apology. According to Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun Times, the Bears quarterback suffered an MCL tear in Sunday’s NFC Championship game.

Doctors are still determining the grade of the tear. It’s worth noting that the grade of the MCL tear is significant. A tear can sometimes be another word for “sprain”.

Because Cutler was simply standing on the sideline and not getting treatment on his knee during the second half Sunday, many outside observers (who, of course, could not feel Cutler’s pain) were quick to criticize his toughness and heart.

Though the initial harsh reaction to Cutler’s injury was startling (how often do NFL players get questioned like this?), it wasn’t unprecedented. LaDainian Tomlinson went through a similar ordeal a few years ago when a knee injury kept him out of playoff action. Tomlinson’s knee injury just happened to be an MCL.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

All of us who watched Jay at Vanderbilt know how tough he is. He is a competitor that only wants to win.  If Bud Adams were not the owner of the Titans, either Matt Leinart or Jay Cutler would have wound up with the Titans.  Coach Adams wanted Texas boy Vince Young and we know how that worked out.  Okay enough with that banter. Now Jay will bounce back and it would not surprise me if Jeff Fisher somehow winds up with Chicago. Then don't be surprised if a trade is made to bring Matt Leinart to Chicago. Just something to think about.   Anyway Jay Cutler is still going to be a star in Chicago. Winning the first time in the playoffs is historically tough.  Cutler needs some receivers and a better offensive line.  It was a small step this year but one in the right direction. Get to know Jay before you give him undo criticism.

Report: Cutler tore his MCL

An MCL injury for any athlete is serious, and takes rehab and or surgery and rehad to correct. The team DR, Coach and Cuttler are the ones that made the call to keephim out of the game, a game inwhich Cuttler hadn't been productive in missing on what could have been key yardage gains, but he missed the mark. All the criticisim stems from his bland expressions, his lack of leadership and motivation of team, his failures in other critical situations, his questionable fortitude. He had all kinds of hype for his great arm and his past Pro Bowl. Fact is in tough situations he doesnt step up, didnt in Denver and hasnt in Chicago. He doesnt inspire, he doesnt fight and lead the charge, he doesnt own it. Sure the Chigago O line had it's share of breakdowns and Cuttler got sacked a lot, so he's bound to get banged up. They didnt have the greatest receivers, they didnt always call good plays, and on and on. Fact is every Defense Chicago faced had a mission to nail Cuttler for his prima-dona comments of the past and the hype he got as some wonderkind, Chicago's new franchise QB fleeced from Denver and the inept boob McDaniels. St. Jay he is not and the Bears fans are seeing through all that crap now. He's knee will heal and he'll start next season and they'll get to a point where the key game matters and Jay wont perform at a champions level. Cuttler will never lead a team to a Bowl victory even on healthy legs.

Rodgers cocky?  The guy hasn't said two words to any other player or media.  The guy had "Packer" fans threatening him when he took over from Brent and still kept his cool.  You'll see plenty of "The Belt" in two weeks.  This is the best O they'll play against all year.

As for Cutler, he is as much fun to watch out of the game as a mime.  He'll look better when they put some players around him and get him protection.

Dimpled Balls,

Glad you finally showed up on the chat boards after trashing me when I said the Pack would win by over 17 over your Atlanta Parakeets choked at home.  Maybe Ryan should of faked an injury to save you a couple points.  If you knew football as well as your hand you'd be posting better material.  Go get your shine box
