Could Carson Palmer be worth a first-rounder?

Carson Palmer demanded a trade a few days ago. He did it behind the scenes, but the Bengals made things public by telling people they'd denied the quarterback's request.

However, would the Bengals trade him if they could get a first-rounder in return? You'd think the answer would be "YES!!!!" Of course, you'd think that the possibility of swapping a team's first for Palmer wouldn't exist. But Bengals.com quotes an anonymous GM who says that a "playoff-ready" team could net a first-rounder for Cincy.

"I don't think his skills have declined. I think he's got everything you want," The GM said. "But for whatever reason, I don't think he's ever put it all together and from what I can tell, they've tried to surround him with good players."

A quick glance at the standings shows the following teams could classify: the Titans, the Dolphins, the Redskins, the Vikings, the Seahawks and the 49ers.

Yes, some of those teams are a stretch, but the more you look at it, perhaps the more it makes sense. Is Palmer worth the equivalent of a first-rounder? No, definitely not. He's older, he appears to have lost arm strength and he's already threatening retirement.

But there are a group of teams -- most notably the Washington, Minnesota and Seattle -- who might qualify as teams legitimately interested in overpaying for the possibility of winning now.

Minnesota needs a replacement for Brett Favre who can keep the team afloat before the roster gets so old that competing isn't an option, Seattle has Pete Carroll who will trade for ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE (oh, and he coached Palmer at USC) and the Redskins are the Redskins.

So, in short, no, Carson Palmer is not worth a first-rounder, but yes, there is always a chance that some team can net that pick in exchange for the beleaguered Bengals quarterback.

Could Carson Palmer be worth a first-rounder?

Carson Palmer could be an immense help to some NFL teams.  Arizona and San Fran, especially in the NFC west, could become contenders with Palmer under center next year.  Other teams could also use him, such as Carolina, Miami, or even Washington.   That being said if your franchise has the luxury of being patient, which is rarely the case in the NFL, I would absolutely NOT give up a first round pick for a 30 year old QB whos had major knee surgery. Sorry.

Could Carson Palmer be worth a first-rounder?

If you've got the money to pay his contract, then yeah, I think he's worth a 1st rounder.  Especially for teams like the 'Skins, 'Fins, and Niners, who haven't been able to draft a QB for sh!!!'t
like i said, he's NOT worth a 1st round pick even if team's can pay the contract. Why trade a first round pick for a qb who is overpayed and threw 20 interceptions??? you dont. IF he gets traded (which i doubt highly) it will likely be the 49ers for their pick or Seattle. Can't see Miami trying to get him because i think they go after Young and i see Washington wanting Jake Locker too much.

Could Carson Palmer be worth a first-rounder?

First off, I agree with the last statement: GO STEELERS!  Second, I think that if Cincinnati does that, they should make a trade with someone like Carolina or Buffalo and try to get a top 3 pick.  Sure, Carson probably isn't that valuable, but he could still turn a team around
