Sidney Rice done for the season

S. Rice suffered two concussions in three weeks (US Presswire).Posted by Josh Katzowitz

The past couple of seasons have not been kind to Seahawks receiver Sidney Rice and to the teams who employ him.

After starting only three games last year because of a hip injury, the Vikings declined to give him a long-term deal, which allowed Seattle to do exactly that, inking him to a five-year, $41 million contract before this season.

But if the Vikings believed he was brittle -- and by not signing a talent like Rice, that obviously was one of the reasons they didn’t re-up him -- he’s done nothing to disprove that theory.

That’s why it’s not surprising to hear, via the Seattle Times, that the Seahawks will place Rice on injured reserve after suffering his second concussion in three games (Rice also suffered through a torn labrum early this season and missed practice lately because of knee problems).

"We're going to sit him down to make sure we take great care of him as we gather more information," coach Pete Carroll said. “We have to give him time. He's going to have to sit for a number of weeks before he would be able to play anyway. We just want to make sure we take care of him and don't bring him back too soon."

It’s an unfortunate occurrence for Rice, who seems to have disappeared in Seattle.

Remember in 2009 when he caught  83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns? That seems like ages ago. In the past two seasons combined, he’s recorded 46 catches for 537 yards and eight touchdowns.

Obviously, Rice is still a scoring threat because he’s 6-foot-4 and speedy. But on a game-by-game impact, the 25-year-old has grown nearly irrelevant because of his injuries. Now we’ll have to wait until next year to see if he’s really the receiver he once was.

Yes, and now that he's on a new team and has a new contract he's back to 2009 form.  Oh, wait...

Sidney Rice done for the season

He only started 3 games last year because he didn't want to play.  The team sucked; why would he reduce his FA stock?

He started only 3 games last year because of the hip AND a concussion last year. It's always something.
